What Sterling houses ask for

Sterling was settled in 1868 and incorporated in 1884, and its downtown is listed on the National Register as the Downtown Sterling Historic District, along with landmarks like the 1909 Logan County Courthouse and Queen Anne houses such as the Conrad Luft Sr. House. The housing around it runs from early frame and brick homes to post-war ranches and newer builds on the edges of town.

  • Older frame houses: many layers on wood siding and trim, so scraping back to a sound edge and priming bare wood come before color. A house from before 1978 also brings the state lead rule: once the work will disturb 2 or more square feet of old paint, you get the EPA’s Renovate Right booklet a week ahead and the crew works lead-safe.
  • Brick: unpainted brick in good shape usually should stay unpainted; painted brick gets a breathable masonry coating after any water problems are fixed.
  • Ranches and newer homes: chalked paint on the sun-facing walls, failed caulk at corners, and trim that needs more attention than the siding.

Sun, wind and a low, dry elevation

At about 3,931 feet, Sterling is the lowest town we paint, but it is still high-plains sun with long open exposures. South and west walls wear first. We specify exterior products by surface and exposure rather than by habit, and the product line is named on your estimate.

Farm and commercial buildings

Logan County is agricultural, and shops, steel buildings and older barns are part of the work out here. Metal is cleaned and rust is removed mechanically before a metal primer; wood outbuildings get the same prep as a house. See barns and outbuildings and commercial and agricultural painting. For larger commercial work across the Front Range, Painter Hotline’s commercial crew handles phasing and after-hours schedules.

How a Sterling trip works

Estimates start from photos and the year built. When a job needs eyes on it, we set the walkthrough for a trip day, then book the work as a block: the crew arrives with paint and equipment for the whole job and stays until it is done. There is a Sherwin-Williams store in Sterling for mid-job color top-ups, and we paint with all major brands.

Questions

Sterling painting questions

Do you paint in Sterling, Colorado?

Yes. We paint homes, farm buildings and commercial buildings in Sterling and around Logan County, scheduled as planned multi-day trips.

How far out is Sterling for you?

It is the far northeast end of our area, about 128 miles from Denver on I-76. That is why Sterling work is booked as dedicated trips with the crew staying on the job until it is finished.

Do you work on older homes in Sterling?

Yes. Sterling was incorporated in 1884 and has older wood and brick homes near downtown. Pre-1978 houses get lead-safe planning, and painted brick gets a breathable masonry coating.

Is downtown Sterling a historic district?

Yes. The Downtown Sterling Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. National Register listing by itself generally does not control private paint colors, but ask the city before major exterior changes to a listed building.

Can I get an estimate without a visit?

Yes. Photos of each side or each room, close-ups of problem areas and the year built are enough for most jobs. If a walkthrough is needed, we schedule it on a trip day. You choose.

Is there a discount right now?

Book a Sterling project by December 31, 2026 and the labor is 25% off. The discount does not cover paint or materials.

Homes built before 1978 need lead-safe preparation; new builds have their own issues.
How would you like your free estimate?

Both are free and the choice is yours. Older homes, rot and color matching often go better in person; straightforward rooms are usually quicker from photos.
